First-Time Buyers

First-time buyers benefit from a reduced rate of 1.5%on the first €175,000 of the property value. The standard 5% applies to any amount above that threshold.

Gozo Properties

Properties in Gozo may qualify for a reduced stamp duty rate of 2%, subject to government schemes and conditions that are periodically updated.

When Is It Paid?

Stamp duty is paid at the time of signing the final contract (deed of sale) at the notary's office. A provisional stamp duty of 1% is typically paid upon signing the promise of sale (konvenju), which is deducted from the final amount.
